Baby supplies at night, getting nappies and formula delivered

Imagine you are staying in a Moroccan hotel or a rented flat with an infant. It is midnight, the nappies have nearly run out, and the formula you brought from home is almost finished. Going out with a sleeping baby is hard enough, and even harder in a city you barely know. A courier working through the night can make the trip for you, provided you describe the product precisely. Here is how to do that, and how to tell a supply problem from a health question.
What a courier can pick up
The courier collects from the pharmacy or grocery you choose, depending on what is open. Parapharmacy items and baby products are among the possible requests:
- nappies (diapers), once you have given the size;
- infant formula, with the brand and stage stated;
- everyday baby gear such as bottles or dummies;
- care products sold in pharmacies, for example wipes or nappy cream.
Availability depends on the shop, and nobody can promise a product before checking. Any medicine for a child follows the usual rule: a prescription is required for the medicines concerned, and you send a photo of it on WhatsApp.
When your usual brand may not be on the shelf
If you brought your baby's formula from abroad, the brand or the stage numbering may differ here, and a pharmacy on night duty may not hold your reference at all. Decide in advance what you will accept. Most parents can live with another brand of nappy in the same size. Formula is another matter: ask a pharmacist or your doctor before making any switch, and do not leave the choice to the courier, who passes on information and gives no advice.
A clear instruction spares everyone a guessing game. Imagine a message like this one from a hotel guest:
Hello, I urgently need nappies and formula for a 5-month-old. Photo of the tin attached: same formula, same stage, no substitute without calling me first. Nappies size 3, any brand. Delivery to my hotel in Hivernage, location sent. Please ring my mobile, not the room. Paying in cash.
Getting the description right
A pharmacy shelf can hold many similar packs, and infant ranges are often split by age. The fastest method is a clear photo of the front of the box or pack you already use. If you have thrown it away, or it is in a language the pharmacist may not read, send these details:
- The brand and range name, spelled as printed on the packaging.
- Your baby's age and the stage on the formula, usually a number on the tin.
- The nappy size or the weight band printed on the pack.
- How much you want: one tin, two packs, a single bottle.
- Any wording from your doctor's note, copied exactly.
Where the courier looks, and how long it may take
After regular pharmacies close, the likeliest source is the on-duty pharmacy. The team finds the nearest active one and collects your items if it has them. The average for a pharmacy run is 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on availability, and traffic and distance also play a part. You receive the price and estimated time before confirming. A grocery that stays open late may also stock nappies, so mention any you have noticed near your address.

When to call a doctor or pharmacist instead
A delivery fixes a stock problem. It cannot stand in for medical advice, and this guide does not offer any. Speak to a pharmacist or a doctor, without waiting for the courier, if:
- your baby's health worries you, for whatever reason;
- you are unsure about a formula, a change of product or how to prepare it;
- you have a doubt about a medicine or its dose;
- your child has reacted to something they were given.
In a life-threatening emergency, call the emergency services first. UK government travel advice for Morocco says to dial 150 and ask for an ambulance. A courier is not an emergency service. Save the number on your phone now, and your insurer's assistance line too if you are travelling.
Taking delivery without waking the baby
A doorbell carries a long way at 3 in the morning. Say in your message that you would rather get a call or a WhatsApp on arrival, then keep your phone close, on vibrate if necessary. In a hotel or riad, tell the night staff or the guard that a courier is on the way, especially if the doors are locked overnight.
Have your cash ready, in small notes if you can. You pay on delivery, and there is no online payment. Pharmacy orders are handled discreetly, and you can add any other instructions when you send the team a WhatsApp message. Once things have calmed down, keep the brand, stage and size in a note on your phone. Your next order will take under a minute to write.
