Marrakech delivery zones and what to tell your courier in each

A prepared dish served and ready to eat

Newcomers to Marrakech soon learn that an address is not a fixed format here. In Guéliz you can quote a street and a building number. In the old city, your riad may sit on a lane no map names properly. Out in the Palmeraie, a villa can hide behind an unmarked gate. A courier needs different details for each, and the closer your message fits your district, the fewer calls you will get on the way. Our day and night delivery service takes orders on WhatsApp or by phone, with no app needed.

Guéliz, Hivernage and Majorelle: blocks and hotels

The new town is the easiest part to read, with named avenues and many residences. The usual mistake is to give the avenue and stop there, when a long stretch of Guéliz has dozens of entrances. Add the residence name, building number, floor and flat.

Hivernage has a lot of hotels, so many orders end at a front desk. Give the exact hotel name, your name as registered and your room number, then let reception know a courier is coming. Some properties would rather you came down to the lobby. Around Majorelle, the famous garden is a handy reference, but it has a long perimeter, so also name the street you are on.

The Médina: think in gates and squares

The walled city makes sense through its gates and squares, including around the Mellah, Bab Doukkala on the west side and Bab Ghmat on the east. Cars stop at the edge of many lanes, and some passages are too narrow or crowded even for a motorbike. Start from your nearest gate and describe the way from there. Better still, arrange a meeting point.

A riad name alone can mislead, since several may sound alike. Add the name of your derb, the local word for an alley, if you know it, and ask your host to walk out and meet the courier if you cannot. Drop your WhatsApp location too. Where no conventional address exists, a free Plus Code for your door gives you an exact point to share, and it can be used to receive deliveries.

The Palmeraie and Annakhil: long drives and gates

North-east of the city, the Palmeraie spreads across estates, villas and guesthouses along roads and tracks where house numbers are scarce. A location pin beats any written description here. Add the colour of the gate or the name of the estate, and say whether a guard opens up or a code is required.

Distance affects both your fee, which varies with the trip and the address, and your estimated time. Ask for both before you confirm, particularly if your chosen restaurant is across town. Annakhil is closer to a regular residential area, so the housing estate name, house number and nearest street usually do the job.

Targa, Massira, M'hamid and Hay Hassani: phases and estates

Much of this side of the city, west and south-west of Guéliz, has grown through housing estates and large developments, and street names often say less than the subdivision does. Your message should include:

  • the district and its phase or sector if it has one, as is common in Massira and M'hamid;
  • the building or house number;
  • something nearby that will be visible at delivery time, such as a mosque, a roundabout or a shop still trading;
  • your WhatsApp location, particularly on newer streets that maps may not know well.

In Targa, with its mix of villas and gated residences, say which entrance the courier should use, because some complexes have more than one. In the evening, meeting at a lit gate works better than directions to a block deep inside the site.

Semlalia, Daoudiate, Hay Mohammadi, Agdal and Sidi Youssef Ben Ali

To the north, Semlalia and Daoudiate are home to students and families, in residences where one building can look much like the next. In student housing, give the block name and come down to the entrance. Hay Mohammadi calls for the same care as the larger estates, meaning a number and a nearby landmark.

South of the Médina, keep in mind that Marrakech's Agdal shares its name with a well-known district of Rabat. Write "Agdal, Marrakech" if you are ordering on someone's behalf from elsewhere. South-east, in Sidi Youssef Ben Ali, tight streets and a dense population make a location pin and a phone you will answer especially useful.

If your area is not listed

These are the neighbourhoods named on the site. If yours is missing, check your address with the team before ordering. What you order changes things slightly too. Meals, including a dinner sent to your part of town, travel in an insulated bag, and for a night-time rush our WhatsApp wording for when time is short gets everything across in one go.

A district-aware message might read like this:

Good evening, delivery to Massira 2, building 14, second floor, location attached. The gate is on the street behind the mosque. What is the total with fees, and the estimated time?

If you are moving on to the capital, the equivalent district notes for Rabat apply the same reasoning to its own areas. Payment is cash on delivery in both cities, so keep some small notes at hand and your WhatsApp message is enough to get going.
